Submitted words and phrases
When you voluntarily submit a word or phrase through the contribution form, we collect the text content you provide (Oromo and/or English). Submissions are reviewed by our team before being added to the public dictionary.

Voice recordings
When you use the in-app microphone to record a pronunciation, we store the audio file on our servers. Recordings are linked to the word or phrase they were submitted for, not to any personal account or identity.

Usage data
We collect anonymous, aggregated analytics such as which words are searched most often, general geographic region (country level), browser type, and device type. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.

• Improving the dictionary — submitted words, phrases, and recordings are reviewed and, if approved, added to the community dictionary to benefit all users learning Afaan Oromo and English.

• Audio quality — voice recordings are used solely to provide native-speaker pronunciations within the app.

• Product improvement — anonymous analytics help us understand which features are most useful and where to focus development effort.

• Security and abuse prevention — server logs may be reviewed to detect and block malicious activity.

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data with third-party advertisers or data brokers. Your contributions belong to the community, not to any commercial entity.

Any analytics we collect are anonymised before storage. We do not use tracking cookies, fingerprinting, or cross-site tracking technologies. Analytics are used only to understand aggregate usage patterns — for example, the most-searched words or the most-used languages — and are never tied to an individual user.

Data is stored on servers hosted by Render (render.com) and, for audio files, cloud blob storage. We apply standard security practices including HTTPS encryption for all data in transit. No system can guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Approved dictionary entries and their associated recordings are kept indefinitely as part of the public community database. Rejected submissions may be deleted. Anonymous analytics data is retained in aggregate form with no time limit.

Gadaa Dictionary is a general-audience educational tool. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
